We are going to discuss Wave Rock. So, is Wave Rock worth it?

Since the entrance fee to Wave Rock is only $12 per person, Wave Rock is definitely worth it if you want to do some days in Hyden’s area. You won’t regret your stay because there are lots of activities to do in the area.

How much does Wave Rock cost?

The first thing to know in order to choose if Wave Rock is worth it or not is the price of course. This is the first topic we are going to cover. How much does Wave Rock cost?

The entrance fee to Wave Rock is $12 per person. It will cost you this price to stay in the area for as long as you wish.

It is also interesting to note that Wave Rock is close to Hyden, a small town in Western Australia (WA). Hyden is 300 kilometers away from Perth, so the drive to Wave Rock is a bit long and does cost some money.

However, once you are in the area, there are a ton of things to do such as Lake Magic, The Salt Pond, the caves, the wildlife park, and other local attractions.

Can you climb Wave Rock?

Wave Rock has such a unique shape. When you see it, you are probably wondering: “Can I get on top of this?” Well, this is exactly what we are going to discuss now. Can you climb Wave Rock?

Wave Rock being 14 meters high, it is impossible for a human being to climb Wave Rock from the front. You cannot climb the wave. However, you can reach the top thanks to a path that will guide you behind the wave and on top of it.

As you can see in the following video, a tourist gave a shot to climbing Wave Rock, and he is nowhere near success. Check the video below to see what I mean by that.

Climbing this wall by running is just not an option. Even the most agile people have trouble climbing the Warped Wall of Ninja Warrior, which is “only” around 5 meters high. Wave Rock is three times higher than the Warped Wall!

In the following video, you can see what the Mega Warped Wall (5,25 meters high) looks like and how hard it is for Bryson Klein to reach the top of it. Now imagine a wall three times higher than this one, and even more incurved, and you have got Wave Rock.

Then, if you are talking about traditional rock climbing, and if bouldering is possible in Wave Rock, the answer is no. Bouldering in Wave Rock is not possible, and it is not the best place in Australia to do it. So keep your bouldering equipment in the back of the car, and simply enjoy Wave Rock as it is.

It is important to keep in mind that Wave Rock is a sacred place for aboriginal people and that we should respect it when we visit it. It is a little bit like when you visit Uluru in the Northern Territory.

If Uluru is also on your Australian bucket list, you should definitely read the article I wrote about this incredible sacred rock in the middle of nowhere.

I wrote one article explaining if Uluru is (or is not) the biggest rock in the world. You should check it out.
